Three Options To Stop Smoking With Hypnosis

by Alex Rudzinski on September 18, 2010

The single most common and effective use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is treatment to stop smoking. Not only do more people seek hypnosis help for kicking the smoking habit than for any other problem, it’s also one of the fastest treatments available. Though some people enjoy and continue treatment on an ongoing basis, most smokers require only one session to see the change they desire.

Your smoking habit is not merely a physical addition, it’s a mental one. The act of quitting can be difficult, but hypnosis can help you stop smoking by addressing your habit, not just your physical addiction, and by reprogramming your mind to make the process easier. But where to start? There are three possible ways to stop smoking with hypnosis:

1.) Work one-on-one in the office of a local hypnotherapist.

This is a great method, and many people benefit from the hands-on relationship. Some people enjoy going to a therapist, and for people that prefer in-person visits and feel comfortable addressing their problems personally in front of their hypnotist, this can be a very effective method. The drawback, because it is a one-on-one visit, is that it can quickly get very expensive, especially if you need more than one session.

2.) Sign up for a group hypnosis session.

Visiting hypnotists often rent out large banquet facilities and advertise in the local paper. That’s what a group session is. You pay a fee, along with dozens to hundreds of other people, and you all congregate at the same time and place to receive treatment as a group from the hypnotist. It’s successful for some people, but if you are at all shy, reserved or uncomfortable letting yourself relax in front of an entire crowd of people, this might not be the method for you. Though usually affordable, it’s not terribly personal, and really does take a highly suggestible personality.

3.) Listen to a hypnosis program at-home.

Some of the best benefits are seen with at-home hypnosis programs. Quite simply, you listen to CDs (or an mp3), follow the instructions, and let the experienced voice of a hypnotherapist guide you into a state of hypnosis. But the best part is that it’s recorded, which means it’s private. You don’t have to feel awkward or uncomfortable in front of anyone else, and you can listen to the program as many times as you like, without paying anything extra (and that can save you a LOT of money!)

Whatever method you choose, if you are committed and are truly ready to stop smoking, hypnosis can provide the help you need, even if you’ve failed with other methods.
