The link between hypnosis and dieting

by Carmen W. Gaston on August 29, 2011

You may have read a few bistro MD reviews and many other diet plan reviews. Some of the testimonials would say that it helped them lose weight while others say that they’ve gained some. It goes to show that diet and exercise alone may not be enough for some people to lose that extra pound. So it is rather strange then if your doctor will suggest to you to include hypnosis in your weight loss regimen.

Hypnosis has been a fascinating subject for many people especially since it has been so difficult to understand it even science finds it to be a mystery. In hypnosis, mental suggestions are being given to the entranced patient in the hope that it can induce some kind of change in behavior. However, do not believe what you see in the television about hypnosis being able to enslave people because people who are being hypnotized are well aware what is happening to them.

However, the change in behavior can be seen but only after a few sessions when the suggestions have truly sank in. Many experts believe that this form of therapy is rather dangerous and downright unethical but plenty of medical practicioner and even criminologists find this method effective in getting positive behavior from the candidate.

This has been widely used by criminologists and psychologists to control bad behavior from recipients. It has also been used to control irrational fears like phobias, improve sleep for those with severe sleeping problems and even stop smoking and nail biting. In education, hypnosis has been used to improve reading and memory while professionals use hypnosis to help them improve their performance in their chosen career.

But the biggest buzz and controversy with hypnosis is when it was used to help in losing weight. The conventional method was just exercise and dieting and introducing this method made people take a step back. However, studies have shown that the use of hypnosis in weight loss has greatly improved recipients over all weight. In fact, one study has shown that those who added hypnosis in their weight loss program managed to lose about 17 pounds while a puny 0.5 pounds were lost from those who didn’t have hypnosis.

Losing weight with hypnosis is a very unbelievable idea and unfortunately a lot people are afraid to take the risk because they are still stuck in their assumptions about hypnosis. However, one must not think to severely about this because this is just one the possible breakthroughs in the field of weight loss. It is a like a break in the tradition of exercise and dieting.
