This “ban” of the member–usually one who contributes often, makes the other affiliates afraid and takes away their independent thinking. Why? Because they do not want to be banned like the “other member” who did things the cult leader didn’t like.

This means that if one affiliate of a group who seems to be loyal gets banned for no plain reasons, that once rules and thought processes are restricted, that the cult leader can and will control the other members of the group with much more hypnosis control.
