How Does Hypnosis Work?

by admin on April 23, 2010

When people talk about hypnosis in generally, we are often driven to think that this is the method of putting someone to sleep and he, being in the unconscious state, is still able to be in verbal connection with the “hypnotist”. Maybe this generally misconstrued notion is brought about by the hyped up scenes we see being portrayed in the different forms of media. Before we further concoct our own version of hypnosis, let us take a closer look at how it works.

Hypnosis actually works by bringing you in a trance-like state or what you may refer to as a state of consciousness with a reduced awareness which is accompanied by a strictly focused attention. In clinical terms and explanations, the difference of hypnosis from sleep is the level of the alpha brain waves of the person subjected. Fact: Alpha brain waves are low when one is sleeping and high when under hypnosis. This is the reason why a person who is asleep cannot hear but one who is in a state of hypnosis can.

Hypnosis is performed under the administration of a clinician or a “hypnotist” who makes a close watch of the subject. Every person is born with a particular level of “hypnotizability” – of course varying in level as some are more susceptible to hypnosis while others seem to possess slow potentials to easily enter the state of trance. Clinicians often aid the subject to understand and train himself to allow the transition from a very conscious state to a state of semi-consciousness. When this happens, hypnotherapy may be very well administered.

Of course, subjects need not fear hypnosis as they are not asked to do things that they don’t want to. In fact they can clearly object to it. It is a fallacy that one should believe that when you are in a hypnotized state, you would not be able to rouse from it as you could easily and very well stop it if you already feel uncomfortable about the process. Remember that once you submit yourself to hypnosis, you are still capable of accepting or refusing. You are only introduced to a heightened awareness thus clearing your being from all the emotional, mental, spiritual and psychological clutters that are blocking you from moving on.

Hypnosis works by de-cluttering; de-clouding and de-stressing you. Freedom from bondage is perhaps the topmost benefit that hypnosis could give you. Do you know that even medical practices use hypnosis as a means of treatment or as a counter to pain? It works by boosting or rousing your hidden potentials to be more controlling over your reactions and by moving you to act positively. It is actually more than the power of persuasion. It works by giving your negative subconscious the right motivation to compel into an action that could bring forth positive results. A hypnotist clearly cleanses your subconscious when you are in the state of trance.
